Music production involves recording, editing and combining sounds into a finished track. Recording captures individual sounds (vocals, instruments) as separate tracks. Mixing balances those tracks together — adjusting volume, tone (EQ) and effects so everything sits well together, rather than competing for space. Mastering is a final polishing step applied to the whole mixed track, preparing it for release.

Example

A song might have separate recorded tracks for vocals, guitar, bass and drums. During mixing, the producer adjusts each track's volume so the vocals sit clearly on top, uses EQ to stop the bass and guitar from clashing in the same frequency range, and adds a touch of reverb to make it feel like one cohesive space.
