In any emergency, the DRSABCD action plan provides a clear order of steps: check for Danger, check Response, Send for help, check Airway, check Breathing, start CPR if needed, and use a Defibrillator if available. Staying calm and following these steps in order — rather than panicking or skipping ahead — gives the best chance of helping someone effectively until professional help arrives.

Example

If you find someone collapsed, you'd first check the area is safe (Danger), then check if they respond to your voice or touch (Response), call 000 (Send for help), check their Airway is clear, check if they're Breathing normally, and begin CPR if they're not breathing normally — following the steps in that specific order.
