Health & PE · Year 10
Young people have started genuine community-action initiatives that positively influence the health and wellbeing of their own communities — from mental health awareness campaigns to healthy eating programs to organised local activities. Planning and presenting on how food is prepared, served and shared safely — considering things like hygiene, allergies and cultural food practices — is a practical health skill relevant to many community and family settings. For this activity, research one real, youth-led community health initiative (in your local area or more broadly), and prepare a short presentation explaining what it does, what health or wellbeing issue it addresses, and why you think it has (or hasn't) been effective — then, if practical, identify one small action you personally could take to support health or wellbeing in your own community.
Example
A youth-led mental health awareness initiative at a local school might involve students organising a wellbeing week with activities, guest speakers and peer support resources — researching how such an initiative was planned, funded and run gives real insight into how community-level health promotion actually works in practice, beyond just reading about the concept.
