Debating in your target language

Take a simple, low-stakes topic (like "cats are better pets than dogs" or "summer is better than winter") and have a short structured debate in your target language with a partner — one person argues for, one against, each getting a chance to make a point and respond to the other's point. This pushes you to construct and defend an argument in real time, a step up from simply describing or narrating, and forces you to actively listen and respond to what the other person actually says rather than just delivering a prepared statement.

Example

Debating "pizza is better than pasta," one side might argue (in the target language) that pizza offers more variety in toppings, while the other responds by arguing pasta pairs better with different sauces and is easier to cook well — the back-and-forth of genuinely responding to the other person's specific point is what makes this different from just each person listing separate opinions.

Rebuttal:: A response that directly addresses and challenges the other person's point.
