Choose a short authentic text in your target language — a poem, a short story excerpt, or an opinion piece — and go beyond simply understanding its literal content to analyse how it's written: word choice, tone, structure and any techniques the writer uses to create a particular effect. This is a genuinely different skill from comprehension alone — it means asking not just "what does this say?" but "how and why does it say it this way?", the same kind of analytical thinking you'd apply to a text in English, now applied in your target language.

Example

Analysing a short poem about autumn in your target language might involve noticing that the writer uses short, clipped sentences toward the end (mirroring the fading of the season) or repeats a specific word for emphasis — observations about craft and technique that go well beyond simply translating or summarising what the poem describes.
