Capstone project: real-world language use

Languages · Year 12

Name: ______________________Date: ____________

Plan and complete a self-directed project that uses your target language in a genuinely real-world way — this could be writing to a pen pal or online community in that language, creating a short video or presentation entirely in the language, or researching and summarising a news article from a source published in that language. The goal is applying everything you've learned — vocabulary, grammar, register and cultural understanding — toward a single, sustained, authentic piece of communication, rather than a short practice exercise.

Example

You might choose to write a genuine post for an online forum in your target language asking a question about a hobby you're interested in, then respond to any replies you receive — using the language for real communication with real people, not just as a classroom exercise.

Key terms

Authentic communication:
Using a language for a genuine, real-world purpose rather than a practice exercise alone.
Sustained task:
A single, larger piece of work completed over time, rather than a short daily exercise.

This topic is self-directed and doesn't have quiz questions.
