Choreographing and performing dance

The Arts · Year 7

Name: ______________________Date: ____________

This one is a create-and-perform activity, not a quiz — so there are no questions to answer on screen. Using the elements of dance (body, space, time, dynamics and relationships), choreograph a short movement sequence of your own — even just 30-60 seconds long. Start by picking one idea, feeling or story you want to communicate (excitement, calm, a memory, a season), then experiment with different movements, levels and speeds until you find ones that fit. Practise your sequence safely — warm up first, dance in a clear space away from furniture, and stop if anything hurts. Once you're happy with it, perform your sequence for a family member. Afterwards, reflect (out loud or in writing): what idea were you trying to communicate, which choices worked well, and what would you change next time? Mark this complete once you've performed your dance and reflected on it.

Example

A student wanting to express the idea of a storm might choose sharp, sudden dynamics, fast timing, and low-to-high level changes to suggest lightning and wind — then reflect afterwards that the fast timing worked well, but the movements could have used more space to feel bigger.

Key terms

Choreograph:
To plan and arrange a sequence of movements to communicate an idea.
Reflect:
To think back on your own choices and consider what worked and what you'd change.

This topic is self-directed and doesn't have quiz questions.
