Speaking and listening are just as important as reading and writing — and they're skills you build by practising with other people. In a good discussion you take turns, listen carefully to what others say, build on their ideas, and disagree politely by giving reasons rather than just saying "you're wrong". In a debate you argue for a particular side, back your points with evidence, and respond to the other side's arguments. This one is a talk-it-out activity, not a quiz — so there are no questions to answer on screen. With a parent or family member, try this: pick a fun topic to discuss or debate, such as "Should kids have homework?", "Is the book better than the movie?", or "Should the school week be four days?". Take turns making your points, give at least one reason for each opinion, and really listen to the other person before you reply. Then swap sides and argue the opposite view — it's harder than it sounds! Mark this complete once you've had your discussion.
Example
Instead of "No, that's wrong!", a good discussion sounds like: "I see why you'd think that, but I disagree because..." — you acknowledge the other person, then give your reason. That keeps the conversation respectful and interesting.
