Water & the water cycle

The water cycle describes how water moves continuously between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere. The sun heats water in oceans, rivers and lakes, causing evaporation (turning it into water vapour that rises). This vapour cools and condenses into clouds. When clouds get heavy enough, precipitation (rain, snow or hail) falls back to Earth, and the cycle continues.

Example

A puddle disappears on a warm day because the sun causes evaporation, turning the water into invisible vapour. Later, that vapour condenses into clouds, and eventually falls again as rain — possibly filling puddles somewhere else entirely.
