Getting active: fitness, community spaces & motivation

Health & PE · Year 7

Name: ______________________Date: ____________

Regular physical activity has real benefits for both physical fitness and overall wellbeing — including mood, energy levels, sleep and long-term health. There are many ways to be active beyond organised sport, including using community spaces like parks, walking or cycling trails, and outdoor recreation areas. Finding activities and settings you actually enjoy — and thinking about practical strategies to fit more movement into daily life, like walking part of the way to school, or setting achievable goals — makes staying active more sustainable long-term than relying on willpower alone. This one is a get-moving activity, not a quiz — so there are no questions to answer on screen. With a parent or family member, plan and do at least 20-30 minutes of physical activity together this week — it could be a walk, a bike ride, a game in the backyard, a trip to a local park, or anything else that gets you moving. Afterwards, jot down (or tell a parent) how it made you feel, and one idea for fitting more activity into your week. Mark this complete once you've done your activity.

Example

A family that struggles to find time for exercise might start small — a 20-minute walk after dinner together — which is both achievable and makes use of a nearby community space, rather than aiming for something too ambitious to stick with.

Key terms

Physical activity:
