Speaking practice on your own builds confidence, but real fluency comes from back-and-forth conversation — where you have to listen, respond, and think on your feet. Have a short conversation (5 minutes is plenty) in your target language with a family member, a language exchange partner, or a conversation-practice app. Prepare a few questions in advance if that helps — like asking about someone's day, their favourite food, or their weekend plans — and try to keep the conversation going by asking a follow-up question rather than just answering and stopping. This one is a self-directed activity, not a quiz — so there are no questions to answer on screen. Afterwards, reflect: what worked well, and was there a moment you got stuck and had to find another way to say something? Mark this complete once you've had your conversation.
Example
You might ask a family member 'What did you do today?' in your target language, and when they answer, follow up with 'Why?' or 'Did you enjoy it?' rather than moving straight to a new topic — keeping the exchange going both ways.
Key terms
This topic is self-directed and doesn't have quiz questions.
