Refining movement skills & fitness goals

Health & PE · Year 8

Name: ______________________Date: ____________

This one is a get-moving activity, not a quiz — so there are no questions to answer on screen. Pick a movement skill you already know (like a basketball shot, a swimming stroke, a tennis serve, or even just your running technique) and spend 15-20 minutes deliberately practising and refining it — focusing on one specific element to improve each time (like footwork, follow-through, or timing), rather than just repeating the same way you always do it. Notice what changes in your effort, timing or body position as you focus on that one element. Afterwards, set one specific, realistic fitness or movement goal for the next 2-4 weeks (like "do 3 sessions of this skill per week" or "increase how long I can hold this properly"). Write it down or tell a parent. Mark this complete once you've practised and set your goal.

Example

A student working on their basketball free throw might notice their shots are inconsistent, and realise their elbow isn't staying tucked in — deliberately focusing just on elbow position for 20 minutes, rather than randomly shooting, leads to noticeably more consistent shots by the end of the session.

Key terms

Deliberate practice:
Focused practice on one specific element of a skill, rather than general repetition.
Movement goal:
A specific, realistic target for improving a physical skill or fitness level over time.

This topic is self-directed and doesn't have quiz questions.
