Languages · Year 8
This one is a self-directed listening and viewing activity, not a quiz — so there are no questions to answer on screen. Watch a short video, show clip, or listen to a song or podcast segment (5-10 minutes) in your target language — with subtitles in that language if you can, rather than English subtitles, since this trains your ear and reading together. Notice and write down: 3-4 new words or phrases, one thing about the culture or setting that was interesting or different, and one moment where the tone of voice or body language told you something even before you understood the words. Share what you noticed with a family member. Mark this complete once you've watched/listened and shared your notes.
Example
Watching a short cooking show clip in your target language, you might notice new food vocabulary, an unfamiliar cooking technique specific to that culture, and that the host's excited tone of voice made clear they loved the dish, even before catching every word of what they said.
