Ignition Learning — Activity Sheet

Giving a short talk in your language

Languages · Year 8

Name: ______________________Date: ____________

This one is a self-directed speaking activity, not a quiz — so there are no questions to answer on screen. Prepare and deliver a short talk (1-2 minutes) in your target language on a topic of your choice — introduce yourself in detail, describe your family, explain a hobby, or talk about your favourite place. Plan a few key points beforehand (you can use short notes, but try not to read word-for-word), and practise saying it out loud at least twice before delivering it properly. Present your talk to a family member. Afterwards, ask them what they understood, and reflect on what felt easy and what you'd like to practise more. Mark this complete once you've delivered your talk and reflected on it.

Example

A student preparing a talk about their favourite hobby might jot down three key points beforehand (what the hobby is, why they enjoy it, how often they do it), then practise saying each point a couple of times out loud before presenting the full talk to a parent without reading directly from notes.

Key terms

Prepared talk:
A short spoken presentation planned in advance, rather than fully improvised.
Delivery:
How clearly and confidently a talk is spoken aloud.

This topic is self-directed and doesn't have quiz questions.
