Probability measures how likely something is to happen, on a scale from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain). It's calculated as the number of favourable outcomes divided by the total number of possible outcomes. When two things happen together — like flipping a coin AND rolling a die — you can list every combination to work out the chances.
Example
A standard die has 6 faces, each equally likely. The probability of rolling a 6 is 1 favourable outcome ÷ 6 total outcomes = 1/6. Flipping a coin and rolling a die together gives 2 × 6 = 12 possible combinations (Heads-1, Heads-2, … Tails-6), so the chance of Heads-and-6 is 1 out of those 12.
